Vincent N. Schiraldi has been appointed Secretary of the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services. Most recently a Senior Fellow and Senior Research Scientist at Columbia University Justice Lab and Columbia School of Social Work, Secretary Schiraldi has served as Commissioner of the New York City Department of Correction, as a Senior Research Scientist / Adjunct Professor at Columbia University in the City of New York, and as a Senior Research Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School Program in Criminal Justice Policy and Management. Prior to this, he worked as a Senior Advisor in the New York City Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice, as Commissioner of the New York City Department of Probation, as an Adjunct Associate Professor at New York University, as Director of the District of Columbia Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services, and as Founder and Executive Director of the Justice Policy Institute. Secretary Schiraldi earned a BS in Social Psychology at Binghamton University in 1981 and an MSW in Social Work at New York University in 1983. He replaces former Secretary Sam Abed.
