RDML Mark A. Schafer named 38th Commander of the U.S. Navy Region Korea

RDML Mark A. Schafer became the 38th Commander of the U.S. Navy Region Korea. He succeeds former Commander, RDML Buzz Donnelly, in the position. He was commissioned into the Navy in 1994. As a Naval Special Warfare Officer, he has led Navy and joint special operations teams globally. As a Junior Officer, RDML Schafer served with SEAL Team 2, SEAL Team 4 and Naval Special Warfare Development Group. During these tours, he deployed to Eastern Europe, South America, the Middle East and Central Asia. He served as the Commanding Officer of Naval Special Warfare Tactical Development and Evaluation Squadron 3, Naval Special Warfare’s Basic Training Command and as the Commodore of Naval Special Warfare Group 2. His staff assignments include three tours at the Joint Special Operations Command as an Operations Planner and Interagency Task Force Director. RDML Schafer’s last tour was as the Director of Operations for the Joint Special Operations Command headquartered in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He holds a Master of Business Administration from the Naval Postgraduate School.
