Col. Zachary S. Warakomski assumed command of the Peterson-Schriever Garrison, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado

July 21, 2021: Col. Zachary S. Warakomski has assumed command of the Peterson-Schriever Garrison, Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado. As Commander, he leads a 2,500 member team providing Base Operating Support to more than 18,400 military, Department of Defense civilians and contractor personnel serving at 22 operating locations worldwide. Prior to his current position Col. Warakomski was Commander, 375th Communications Group, Scott AFB, Illinois. Col. Warakomski entered the U.S. Air Force as a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1998. He has served in a variety of operational and staff assignments at the squadron, group, wing, numbered Air Force, major command and combatant command levels. In addition, he has served in positions at Headquarters Air Force, the Office of the Secretary of Defense and on the Joint Staff as Special Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He replaces Col. James E. Smith in his new role, Col. Smith had served as Garrison Commander since July 2020 when the organization transformed from the 50th Space Wing, Col. Smith's next assignment is as Deputy, U.S. Military Representative, NATO Headquarters, Brussels, Belgium.
