President Joseph R. Biden has announced his intent to nominate Rufus Gifford to be the Chief of Protocol, with the rank of Ambassador, at the U.S. Department of State

June 9, 2021: President Joseph R. Biden has announced his intent to nominate Rufus Gifford to be the Chief of Protocol, with the rank of Ambassador, at the U.S. Department of State. Mr. Gifford served as Deputy Campaign Manager for the Biden for President campaign in 2020. Prior to that role, he was a private consultant, and had also served as the U.S. Ambassador to Denmark. Mr. Gifford was the Finance Chair of the Presidential Inaugural Committee in Washington, D.C., the Finance Director for Obama for America, Chicago, IL, and Finance Director for the Democratic National Committee, Washington, D.C. He also served as the California Finance Director, Presidential Inaugural Committee, for President Obama’s first inauguration and was a political consultant in Los Angeles, CA. Mr. Gifford holds a bachelor’s degree from Brown University.
