The U.S. Senate has confirmed Gayle Manchin as Federal Co-Chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission

June 9, 2021: The U.S. Senate has confirmed Gayle Manchin as Federal Co-Chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission. The former First Lady of West Virginia, Ms. Manchin served as President of the West Virginia Board of Education from 2013 to 2014, as West Virginia Secretary of the Arts from 2017 to 2018, as Director of the AmeriCorps Promise Fellow Program in West Virginia, and as Vice Chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom. She has worked as a teacher in the Marion County, WV, Public School District. Ms. Manchin earned a BA in language arts and education and an MA in literacy education at West Virginia University. She replaces former Co-Chair Mike DeWine.
