President Joseph R. Biden has announced his intent to nominate Sarah Margon to be the new Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor at the U.S. Department of State

May 4, 2021: President Joseph R. Biden has announced his intent to nominate Sarah Margon to be the new Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor at the U.S. Department of State. Ms. Margon currently serves as the U.S. Foreign Policy Director at the Open Society Foundations. She has previously served as Washington Director, and before that, Deputy Washington Director for Human Rights Watch. Ms. Margon also served as Associate Director for Sustainable Security and Peacebuilding at the Center for American Progress, Senior Foreign Policy Advisor to Senator Russ Feingold, and Staff Director for the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on African Affairs. Ms. Margon also was Humanitarian and Conflict Policy Advisor for Oxfam America. She holds a B.A. in American Studies from Wesleyan University and an M.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University.
