President Joseph R. Biden has announced his intent to nominate Lee Satterfield to be the next Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State

April 30, 2021: President Joseph R. Biden has announced his intent to nominate Lee Satterfield to be the next Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State. Ms. Satterfield currently serves as President and Chief Operating Officer at Meridian International Center, a non-profit center for diplomacy that strengthens engagement between the United States and the world. She previously served in the Obama Administration as Acting Assistant Secretary of State and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Prior to that, Ms. Satterfield served as the Deputy Chief of Protocol of the United States. She held several senior positions in the Clinton Administration, including Chief of Staff to Secretary of Labor Alexis Herman, Special Assistant to the President and Staff Director for The White House Office of Public Liaison. She holds a B.A. in Journalism from the University of South Carolina.
