The United States Senate has confirmed Denis McDonough as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

February 23, 2021: The United States Senate has confirmed Denis McDonough as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Mr. McDonough served as White House Chief of Staff to President Barack Obama from 2013 to 2017 and as Chief of Staff at the National Security Council from 2009 to 2010. He has also served as an aide for the United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs, a Senior Policy Advisor to Senator Tom Daschle, and Legislative Director for Senator Ken Salazar. Mr. McDonough earned a BA in history and Spanish at Saint John's University and an MSFS at Georgetown University's Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service. He replaces former Secretary Robert Wilkie.
