January 25, 2021: Karen Olick was appointed Chief of Staff to the Secretary of Homeland Security on January 20, 2021. Olick was an aide to Senator Barbara Boxer for more than a decade, serving as Chief of Staff until 2007. She then joined the political consulting firm SKDKnickerbocker as Managing Director. Olick has managed and consulted on numerous political campaigns including those of Vice President Joe Biden and former U.S. Senators Mary Landrieu, Tom Harkin and Frank Lautenberg.
