October 14, 2020: United States Attorney General William P. Barr has named Gregg N. Sofer as the new US Attorney for the Western District of Texas. He succeeds John F. Bash, who resigned last week. Prior to his current position, Mr. Sofer served as the Counselor to the Attorney General of the United States, where he handled criminal and national security matters, as well as crisis response. He also served for 13 years in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas, where he handled national security, fraud, violent crime and corruption cases. Mr. Sofer began his career in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted violent gang, murder and firearms trafficking cases for over 11 years. He holds a B.A. from Rutgers University and a J.D. from New York University School of Law.
