Lora Shiao has been Named the Acting Director for the National Counterterrorism Center

March 25, 2020: Lora Shiao has been named the Acting Director for the National Counterterrorism Center; Shiao will be the first woman to hold the post of Acting Director of the National Counterterrorism Center. Shiao served as NCC’s Deputy Director for Intelligence from 2016 to 2019. She also was the Deputy Director for Terrorist Identities from 2015 to 2016. As Acting Director, Shiao would also become the agency’s Deputy Director. She will serve in this position until Christopher Miller, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Special Operations and Combating Terrorism at the Department of Defense, is confirmed. President Donald J. Trump nominated Miller for the position last week. The National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) serves as the primary organization in the US government for integrating and analyzing all intelligence pertaining to terrorism. The Center was established in 2001 in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks during the term of former US President George W. Bush. It has more than 1,000 employees.
