March 13, 2019: Amy Acton was appointed as the Director of the Ohio Department of Health by Gov. Mike DeWine on Feb. 26, 2019. Acton, a licensed physician, has worked in the public health and preventative medicine fields for more than thirty years. Acton was most recently a community research and grants management officer at the Columbus Foundation. Before that, Action worked as an Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University College of Public Health. She attended medical school at the Northeastern Ohio University College of Medicine. She completed her internship and residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City and at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus. Acton completed a residency in preventative medicine at The Ohio State University. She received a master’s degree in public health from the same university.
