Feb. 8, 2019: Kristina Swallow has been approved as the Director of the Nevada Department of Transportation by the department’s Board of Directors, Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak announced on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019. Swallow has nearly twenty-five years of experience in the civil engineering industry and government. She is the past president of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Most recently, she worked for the city of Las Vegas as a Program Manager at the Departmetn of Public Works’ City Engineer Division. As a practicing civil engineer, Swallow has worked in several technical areas, including flood control, traffic impact analysis and mitigation, land development, public works, and transportation policy. She has worked as a small business owner; as a consultant; as a Program Manager in city government; as a lobbyist at the Nevada State Legislature; and as a Legislative Aide at the U.S. Senate. Swallow received a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Arizona, a master of science degree in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and she has completed additional studies at the University of Las Vegas, College of Urban Affairs.
