John Barthelmes to retire soon as Commissioner, New Hampshire Department of Safety

Feb. 8, 2019: John Barthelmes plans to retire soon as the Commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Safety, Gov. Chris Sununu announced on Monday, Feb. 4, 2019. Barthelmes has held the position for nearly twelve years. Barthelmes received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and he is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy. In 1996, Barthelmes was appointed as the Director of the New Hampshire State Police. He was most recently the Director of the New England High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program under the Office of National Drug Control Policy. Barthelmes’ current term as Commissioner in New Hampshire runs through next month, March, 2019.
