Steve Sisolak, Democrat, officially sworn in as 30th Governor of Nevada

Jan. 9, 2019: Steve Sisolak, Las Vegas Democrat, was officially sworn in as the 30th Governor of Nevada on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at the State Capitol in Carson City, Nevada, the state’s capital. Sisolak is Nevada’s first Democratic Governor in about twenty years. Nevada Treasurer Zach Conine, Democrat; Republican Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske; and Controller Catherine Byrne, Democrat, were also sworn in Monday, Jan. 7, 2019. Sisolak defeated Republican Attorney General Adam Laxalt, the grandson of former Gov. Paul Laxalt, in November, 2018. Sisolak has spent a decade on the Clark County, Nevada, County Commission, which oversees the Las Vegas Strip and surrounding communities.
