Marc Elrich, Democrat, elected as Montgomery County, Md., County Executive

Nov. 8, 2018: Marc Elrich, Democrat, was elected as the Montgomery County, Md., County Executive on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018. Elrich is a three-term Montgomery County Councilman. Erich carried 64.4 percent of the vote on Tuesday, Nov. 6, winning 225,900 of the nearly 351,000 votes cast. Nancy Floreen, also a longtime County Councilman, who temporarily shed her Democratic Party affiliation to challenge Elrich as an Independent, trailed Elrich with less than 20 percent of the vote. Perennial Republican candidate Robin Ficker received just 16 percent of the votes cast. As County Executive, Elrich succeeds Isiah “Ike” Leggett, who is retiring as the County Executive after twelve years in the position.
