Nov. 8, 2018: Incumbent Maryland State Sen. Ron Young, District 3 Democrat, was re-elected to office on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018. On Tuesday, Nov. 6, Young had 57 percent of the vote with 41 of 50 precincts reporting results. Young has a storied past in politics, which started in 1970 when he was elected to the Frederick, Md., Board of Aldermen. After holding that position for one term, he was elected Mayor in 1974, and he held that post for sixteen years. He then took a break from the political limelight for several years before running for the Maryland State Senate District 3 seat, representing his hometown, in 2010. He won that race and was re-elected in 2014 to a second consecutive term. His opponent, Craig Giangrande, 53, owns several local Burger King franchises and was a first-time candidate.
