Mike DeWine, Republican, elected Governor of Ohio

Nov. 8, 2018: Mike DeWine, Republican, was elected as the Governor of Ohio on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018. DeWine defeated Richard Cordray, Democrat. The win by a Republican marked the third straight election in which the Republican Party will hold the Ohio Governor’s Office. Several news outlets called the race for DeWine around 11 p.m. Nov. 6, and Cordray conceded to DeWine shortly after. Unofficial results from the Ohio Secretary of State's Office showed DeWine with a nearly 5-percentage point lead as of 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 6. DeWine, 71, the current Ohio Attorney General, adds another political position to his more than four decades in Ohio politics.
