Vermont Gov. Phil Scott, Republican, is re-elected to office

Nov. 8, 2018: Vermont Gov. Phil Scott, Republican, was re-elected to office on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018. Scott defeated political newcomer Christine Hallquist, Democrat. Unofficial results showed Scott received 54.45 percent of the votes cast, and Hallquist received 39.72 percent. Scott remains the only Republican holding statewide office in Vermonth. Hallquist is a political newcomer and the former chief executive officer of the Vermont Electric Cooperative in Johnson. In other Vermont election news on Nov. 6, 2018, voters pushed the Vermont Legislature decisively toward Democratic control.
