Scott Stern to resign as Commissioner, South Dakota Governor's Office of Economic Development, on Dec. 1

Nov. 6, 2018: Scott Stern has announced that he plans to resign as the Commissioner of the South Dakota Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) on Dec. 1, 2018. Stern’s resignation plans were announced by Gov. Dennis Daugaard on Friday, Nov. 2, 2018. Stern has held his position since 2016. He is resigning to take a leadership position at the Stern Oil Company, a Freeman, S.D., family business since 1976. Before he joined GOED, Stern spent four years with Suncor Energy and, before that, twenty-nine years with the Stern Oil Company. In addition to working as the GOED Commissioner, Stern was also on the Governor’s Executive Committee. Aaron Scheibe, GOED’s Deputy Commissioner, has been appointed to succeed Stern as the GOED Acting Commissioner from Dec. 1, 2018, through the remainder of the Daugaard administration, which ends on Jan. 5, 2019.
