George Nicholson retires as California Court of Appeal Third District Judge

Nov. 6, 2018: Peter A. Krause was appointed as a California Court of Appeal Third District Judge by Gov. Jerry Brown on Friday, October 26, 2018. Krause, 49, of Sacramento, was most recently the Legal Affairs Secretary at the California Governor’s Office for Brown since 2014. He was previously the office’s Chief Deputy Legal Affairs Secretary in 2013 and 2014. He previously held several positions at the California Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General, from 2007 to 2013, including Supervising Deputy Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General. Krause was an Attorney at the Judicial Council of California, Office of the General Counsel, from 2005 to 2007, and an associate at Sheppard, Mullin, Richter and Hampton from 1996 to 2005. He received his law degree from the Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, and a bachelor of arts degree from the University of California, Berkeley. In his new position, Krause fills a vacancy created by the retirement of George W. Nicholson.
