October 9, 2018: Margaret Weichert was appointed as the Acting Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) on Friday, October 5, 2018. She succeeds Jeff Pon, who had been leading OPM since March, 2018. It’s unclear what his next steps are. Weichert, of Georgia, is currently the Deputy Director for Management at the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Weichert will retain her position and duties as the OMB Deputy Director, White House officials said in a press release. Weichert previously worked as a principal at Ernst and Young. Weichert has also held executive leadership positions at Market Platform Dynamics, First Data, Bank of America, and Andersen Consulting, and her work focused on strategy, innovation, and business process improvement in banking and payments technology. In 1999, she co-founded an internet company, Achex, Inc., and sold that company to First Data in 2001. Achex was an online payment services developer specializing in secure checking account transfers on the internet. Weichert has been named as an inventor on fourteen U.S. patents related to online financial services. She has worked since 2010 on the Technology Association of Georgia Fintech Steering Committee.
