West Virginia Del. Roger Hanshaw, Clay Republican, appointed as House Speaker

Sept. 14, 2018: Warren “Dean” Jeffries was appointed to the West Virginia House of Delegates District 40 seat by Gov. Jim Justice on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018. Jeffries succeeds former State House Speaker Tim Armstead, who resigned on August 21, 2018. Jeffries, of Elkview, works as an insurance agent. Jeffries is running for election to the seat in the November, 2018, general election. He is scheduled to face off against Melissa Riggs Huffman, Democrat, on the ballot in District 40. The district covers the northeastern tip of Kanawha County. On August 29, 2018, the House appointed two-term Del. Roger Hanshaw, Clay Republican, to succeed Armstead as the House Speaker.
