Kieran Marion resigns as Director, Office of Policy Initiatives, Michigan Secretary of State's Office

Sept. 13, 2018: John Llewellyn was appointed as the Director of the Office of Policy Initiatives at the Michigan Secretary of State’s Office, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson announced on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018. As the Policy Director, Llewellyn oversees the Office of Government Affairs, which works with the Legislature and the Governor’s Office on legislative and public policy matters as they relate to the department, and the Office of External Affairs, which facilitates outreach to external groups and constituents. Llewellyn, of Fremont, was most recently the executive vice president of government relations for the Michigan Bankers Association since 2005. He was a State Representative, representing Michigan’s 100th District, from 1993 to 1998. From 1998 to 2004, Llewellyn held several positions, including Chief of Staff for the Speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives, Director of Communications for the House, and Director of Constituent Services for the House. He was previously a self-employed apple orchardist from 1975 to 1998. “After 25 years working in and with the Legislature, John has a tremendous amount of experience and knows how to get results,” Johnson said. In his new position, Llewellyn succeeds Kieran Marion, who is now the senior vice president of advocacy for the Michigan Credit Union League and Associates.
