Baltimore City Health Commissioner Leana Wen to resign October 12

Sept. 13, 2018: Baltimore City Health Commissioner Leana Wen has announced that she plans to resign on October 12, 2018, to take a job as the president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Wen, 35, has worked at the Baltimore Health Department since January, 2015. Baltimore officials plan to name an Acting Commissioner before Wen's resignation. A national search is scheduled to be initiated to hire her successor. Wen was born in Shanghai, China. She and her family immigrated to the U.S. and became citizens in 2003. She graduated from California State University, Los Angeles, at the age of eighteen, and she received her medical degree from the Washington University School of Medicine. She also obtained master’s degrees at the University of Oxford, and she completed her residency training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital.
