Lamont Akins hired as Director, Washington, D.C., Mayor's Office of Community Affairs

Sept. 12, 2018: Lamont Akins was hired as the Director of the Washington, D.C., Mayor’s Office of Community Affairs (MOCA) by Mayor Muriel Bowser on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018. Akins has worked at MOCA for more than three years. He was most recently the Acting Director of the office. He was previously the MOCA Chief of Staff. Before he arrived at MOCA, Akins was the Special Assistant at the D.C. Mayor’s Office; the Director of Constituent Services and Community Outreach at the office of D.C. At-Large City Councilman Anita Bonds; and a Program Manager at the D.C. city government’s Department of Employment Services. Akins received a master’s degree in community development from Delta State University, and a bachelor of arts degree in political science and government from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
