Dave Powner resigns as Director of Information Technology Issues, U.S. Government Accountability Office

August 9, 2018: Dave Powner plans to resign soon as the Director of Information Technology Issues at the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). Powner is scheduled to hand over his Federal IT Acquisition Reform Act-related responsibilities to Carol Harris. Harris is GAO’s Director for IT Acquisition Management Issues. Nick Marinos, GAO’s Director of Cybersecurity and Information Management, has been appointed to take over Powner’s responsibilities regarding U.S. Census efforts. Powner is set to leave GAO for Mitre in late August, 2018, to work as the Director of Strategic Engagement and Partnerships at the nonprofit research corporation. Harris is a sixteen-year GAO veteran who has led IT systems assessments at several agencies, including the departments of Defense, Commerce and Homeland Security. Marinos is a certified data privacy professional and has led audit teams that carry out information management, privacy and cybersecurity reviews at federal agencies since he joined GAO in 2002. GAO is an independent federal government agency.
