Montana Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney appointed Chairman, Nationanl Lieutenant Governors Association

July 11, 2018: Montana Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney was appointed on Friday, June 29, 2018, as the Chairman of the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA). NLGA is a professional association for the second-highest ranking officials in all fifty states and the U.S. territories. Cooney was selected and confirmed to this position by his peers from across the country. The committee meets three times a year to chart issues and work to be pursued by Lieutenant Governors. Cooney’s term as Chairman runs until July, 2019. Cooney has worked in both houses of the Montana legislative branch, and he was the Montana Secretary of State for three terms. He was previously the Chairman of the National Association of Secretaries of State. Since he was appointed as the Montana Lieutenant Governor, he has engaged NLGA in emergency preparation and response as the Chairman of the Governor’s Drought and Water Supply Advisory Committee and in workforce development initiatives, such as apprenticeships and small business growth.
