Jerome Gilbert appointed Co-Chairman of newly-created West Virginia Blue Ribbon Commission on Higher Education

July 9, 2018: West Virginia University President E. Gordon Gee, Marshall University President Jerome Gilbert and Concord University President Kendra Boggess were appointed as the Co-Chairmen of the newly-created West Virginia Blue Ribbon Commission on Higher Education by Gov. Jim Justice on Monday, July 2, 2018. Justice created the Commission to “review, study and assess the current state of four-year Higher Education institutions in West Virginia,” according to a statement from the Governor’s Office that was released on July 2, 2018. “I have asked the commission to give regular reports and have mandated that its work be completed by the December 2018 interim meetings of the Legislature,” Justice said in a statement. Other Members of the Blue Ribbon Commission are: Mike Farrell, the Chairman of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission (HEPC); Drew Payne, the Secretary of HEPC; Steven L. Paine, the West Virginia Superintendent of Schools; Mirta Martin, the President of Fairmont State University; Anthony Jenkins, the President of West Virginia State University; Dale Lee, the President of the West Virginia Education Association; Marty Becker, the Chairman of the Board of QBE Insurance; Eric Lewis, a certified public accountant; Amelia Courts, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the West Virginia Education Alliance; Gary White, a consultant and the acting chief executive officer of the Mountain Health Network; Ellen Cappellanti, a lawyer; three Members of the State Senate (two Republicans and one Democrat), as designated by the Senate President, and all three designees are appointed as ex-officio, non-voting Members; and three Members of the State House of Delegates (two Republicans and one Democrat), as designated by the Speaker of the House, an all three designees are appointed as ex-officio, non-voting Members.
