Sherman Lea re-appointed as Member, Virginia Parole Board

June 13, 2018: Sherman P. Lea, Sr., was re-appointed as a Member of the Virginia Parole Board by Gov. Ralph Northam on Friday, June 8, 2018. Lea has been on the Parole Board since 2014. He previously worked at the Virginia Department of Corrections for thirty-five years before he retired in January, 2012. Lea started his corrections career as an Institutional Parole Office in Richmond, and when he retired, he was the Regional Administrator for the Western Region of Community Corrections. Lea has been a Member of the Roanoke, Va., City Council since 2004. He was elected Mayor in 2016, and he was the Vice Mayor from 2008 to 2010. Before he was elected to the City Council, he was the Chairman fo the Roanoke City School Board. Lea received his bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Virginia Union University. He attended the Graduate School of Urban Studies at Old Dominion University, and he received an honorary doctor degree in human letters.
