Ellen Bolen resigns as NOAA Undersecretary for Oceans and Atmosphere

June 12, 2018: Ellen Bolen was appointed as the Deputy Director of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission by Gov. Ralph Northam on Friday, June 8, 2018. Bolen was most recently a Senior Adviser to the Administrator and the Undersecretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), where she worked on fishery and coastal issues. Bolen was previously the director of the Fisher Conservation Program and the associate director of government relations at the private, non-governmental Ocean Conservancy; and a field biologist at the Mote Marine Laboratory, where she studied manatee population dynamics. Bolen graduated from the Master of Environmental Management program at the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University, and she received a bachelor of science degree in zoology from the University of Oklahoma. NOAA is a division of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
