Kenneth Marcus confirmed as Education Department Assistant Secretary, Civil Rights

June 11, 2018: Kenneth L. Marcus was confirmed as an Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education by the U.S. Senate on Thursday, June 7, 2018. Marcus is currently the president and general counsel of the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law. He was previously the Lillie and Nathan Ackerman Chair in Equality and Justice in America at Baruch College of the City University of New York. He also previously worked as the Staff Director at the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, and he was delegated the authority of Assistant Secretary of Education for Civil Rights during the administration of former President George W. Bush. Marcus received his law degree from the University of California Berkeley School of Law.
