Rossie Alston nominated as U.S. District Court Judge for Virginia Eastern District

June 11, 2018: Rossie D. Alston, Jr., was nominated as a U.S. District Court Judge for the Eastern District of Virginia on Thursday, June 7, 2018. Alston is currently a Virginia Court of Appeals Judge, where he has worked since 2009. Alston is also an adjunct professor of law and an adjunct professor of criminology at George Mason University. Alston previously worked for eight years as a Virginia Circuit Court Judge for the 31st Judicial Circuit, where he worked on criminal, civil and death penalty cases. Alston was also previously a Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court Judge in Prince William County, Va., for three years. Before he worked as a Judge, Alston worked as a lawyer in private practice for nine years and as a Commissioner in Chancery and Substitute Judge. Before he started working in private practice, he worked as a lawyer for five years at the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation. Alston received his law degree from the North Carolina Central University School of Law.
