Michael Atkinson confirmed as Inspector General, Intelligence Community, Office of the Director of National Intelligence

May 16, 2018: Michael K. Atkinson was confirmed as the Inspector General of the federal government’s Intelligence Community, at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, by the U.S. Senate on Monday, May 14, 2018. Atkinson, of Maryland, was previously the Acting Deputy Assistant Attorney General and Senior Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General at the National Security Division at the U.S. Department of Justice since 2016. He was previously an Assistant United States Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Washington, D.C., from 2006 to 2012, then the Deputy Chief of the Fraud and Public Corruption Section until 2015, and then the Section’s Acting Chief in 2015 and 2016. Before he worked at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Atkinson was a Trial Attorney at the Fraud Section of the Criminal Division at the U.S. Department of Justice from 2002 to 2006. Atkinson was previously a partner at Winston and Strawn LLP in Washington D.C. Atkinson received his law degree from Cornell University and his undergraduate degree from Syracuse University.
