May 15, 2018: Maria C. Lopez was nominated as a U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida on Thursday, May 10, 2018. Lopez is currently the Acting U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Florida. From April, 2016, to January, 2018, she was the U.S. Department of Justice’s Deputy Attache at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City. From April, 2000, to April, 2016, she was an Assistant U.S. Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida, prosecuting complex transnational and domestic drug trafficking organizations, large-scale money laundering cases, and complex opioid cases. Before she joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office, she worked at the U.S. Army JAG Corps, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
