Ryan Nelson nominated as U.S. Court of Appeals Judge, Ninth Circuit

May 15, 2018: Ryan D. Nelson was nominated as a U.S. Court of Appeals Judge for the Ninth Circuit on Thursday, May 10, 2018. Nelson, of Idaho, has been the general counsel of the Idaho Falls-based Melaleuca, Inc., since 2009. Before that, he was a Special Counsel for U.S. Supreme Court nominations to the Rankin Member of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee; a Deputy General Counsel at the White House Office of Management and Budget; and a Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the Environment and Natural Resources Division at the U.S. Department of Justice. At the Justice Department, Nelson argued thirteen cases at the U.S. Court of Appeals, and he was the division counsel for more than fifty briefs filed at the Supreme Court. Before he joined the Justice Department, Nelson practiced at the Washington, D.C., office of Sidley Austin LLP. Nelson received his law degree from the Brigham Young University Law School.
