May 14, 2018: Suzan LeVine has been appointed as the Commissioner of the Washington State Employment Security Department (ESD) by Gov. Jay Inslee, effective on July 9, 2018, Inslee announced on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. LeVine succeeds Dale Peinecke, who announced his retirement in April, 2018. LeVine was most recently the U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein from 2014 to 2017 at the U.S. Department of State during the Obama administration. She was previously a Member of Inslee’s Career Connect Washington Task Force and a Delegation Co-Chairman of Inslee’s study mission to Switzerland in 2017. Before she joined the State Department, LeVine worked at Microsoft as the director of strategic partnerships for student developers and as the director of communications for education. She also worked at Expedia as the vice president of sales and marketing. She started her career at Microsoft as a product manager for operating systems and desktop applications. LeVine received her bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering with aerospace applications and a bachelor of arts degree in English from Brown University in 1993. She also received an Honorary Degree from EPFL, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, in October, 2017. Inslee has appointed Cami Feek as the ESD Acting Commissioner until LeVine takes office. Feek is currently the Director of Paid Family and Medical Leave at ESD. Prior she joined ESD, Feek was the Operations Director at the Attorney General’s Office.
