Chuck Gipp retires as Director, Iowa Natural Resources Department

May 14, 2018: Chuck Gipp retired on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, as the Director of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Gipp, of Decorah, worked for the state government for the past twenty-eight years. He was previously elected to the Iowa State House of Representatives in 1990, where he worked for nine consecutive terms in several positions, including House Majority Leader. After he decided not to run for re-election, he was appointed by Iowa Agriculture Secretary Bill Northey as the Director of the Division of Soil Conservation. Gipp held that post for three years. Gipp was appointed as the DNR Deputy Director in August, 2011. He was subsequently appointed as the DNR Director. DNR Deputy Director Bruce Trautman has been appointed as the department’s Acting Director.
