April 12, 2018: U.S. Rep. Dennis Ross, Florida Republican, announced yesterday, Wednesday, April 11, 2018, that he will not run for re-election in November, 2018. "Eight years takes its toll on you. When you feel like a stranger in your hometown, it's time to say, 'There's got to be an exit strategy at some point,' " Ross told The Tampa Bay Times, noting that he had planned on being in office for ten years, or five two-year terms. Ross, 58, said he wants to spend more time at home, with two sons getting married within the year. He cited the grind of travel to and from Washington and having to constantly raise money as well as bitter partisanship. A former Florida State House Member, at the U.S. House, Ross reached the position of Deputy Majority Whip.
