U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby, Alabama Republican, appointed Chairman, Senate Appropriations Committee

April 12, 2018: U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby, Alabama Republican, was appointed as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, for the rest of the 115th Congress. Shelby was previously the Vice Chairman of the Committee during the 113th Congress. As the current Committee Chairman, Shelby succeeds former U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran, Mississippi Republican, who retired on Sunday, April 1, 2018.
