Mario Caraballo fired as EPA Deputy Associate Administrator

April 12, 2018: Mario Caraballo was fired as the Deputy Associate Administrator at the Office of Homeland Security at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. One source with direct knowledge of Caraballo's dismissal said the agency claimed he was let go because of a personnel issue from a previous military job nearly a decade ago that had been resolved then and already been reviewed by EPA officials several years ago. That source said that senior-level EPA officials also were not happy with a recent report from Caraballo’s office regarding recent EPA security and airline expenditures. The EPA is an independent federal government agency.
