Michael Buckingham appointed as Member, South Dakota Board of Elections

Feb. 12, 2018: Michael Buckingham was appointed as a Member of the South Dakota Board of Elections by South Dakota Secretary of State Shantel Krebs on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018. Buckingham, of Rapid City, was selected by State House Majority Leader Representative Lee Qualm to succeed Mitch LaFluer, whose term ended at the end of January, 2018. Buckingham has been a corporate vice president of Dlorah since 1992, and the president of the Fairway Hills division since 1988. He oversees the maintenance of the National American University system, as well as properties being developed at Fairway Hills. Buckingham was on the Rapid City School Board from June, 1998, to December, 2002, when he resigned after being elected to the South Dakota House of Representatives, where he was a Representative until January, 2009. During his legislative term, he was the Co-Chairman of the National Council of State Legislatures Redistricting and Elections Committee, and he was appointed to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. Buckingham graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1981, and he received his MBA from National American University in 2009. In October, 2014, he completed his masters of commercial real estate, a professional designation, from CoreNet Global. In October, 2015, he added the workspace specialist to the designation.
