Jan. 9, 2018: Shannon McGahn resigned on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, as the Counselor to U.S. Department of the Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. McGahn resigned to return to the U.S. House Financial Services Committee as Republican Rep. Jeb Hensarling’s Staff Director, his office said in an e-mailed statement. Hensarling, who leads the House panel overseeing the financial industry, announced in November, 2017, that he does not plan to run for re-election in 2018. Shannon McGahn’s husband is White House Counsel Don McGahn. Shannon McGahn was one of Mnuchin’s earliest appointments. She has helped interview and recruit several members of the Treasury Department’s senior-level political staff. As Counselor, Shannon McGahn has advised Mnuchin on legislative and public affairs issues.
