Laura Rogers appointed Justice Department SMART Office Director

October 9, 2017: Laura L. Rogers was appointed as the Director of the Office of Sex Offenders, Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering and Tracking (SMART) at the U.S. Department of Justice on Thursday, October 5, 2017. Rogers previously worked as a Prosecutor for more than ten years at the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office, specializing in child homicide and sexual abuse. In 1999, she starting working at the National Center for the Prosecution of Child Abuse, where she trained child abuse professionals about prosecuting child abuse cases. In 2006, former President George W. Bush appointed Rogers as the first Director of the SMART office, where she worked on the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act.
